This debate which follows involves a debate that I had as a member of the VBA, Vermont Bar Association Jury Verdict Committee, which is considering whether to recommend to the Vermont Legislature changing Vermont law so as to allow for non-unanimous jury verdicts in civil cases.  The debate took place January 16th at a Vermont Bar Association meeting in Montreal.  The first speaker is Ross Feldman of the Vermont Bar Association, who then turns the microphone over to the moderator, Robert Paolini, Vermont Bar Association Executive Director.  I speak next for roughly 15 minutes, in favor of the proposal, and am then followed by Attorney Sam Hoar, who is also a member of our committee who opposes changing Vermont’s current requirement that there be unanimous jury verdicts in civil cases.  A question and answer period then follows.
